How To Clean House After Lice Infestation?

November 3, 2017

Before we get into the details of what you need to do to clean your house after lice infestation, we would like to reiterate the importance of making sure your household has been successfully treated.

After all, it’s not your house that is the source of infestation.

That first louse, A-lice in wonderland, did not leisurely come crawling at your doorstep; someone in your family got infested, and it turned into a domestic epidemic.

So, yes, focus on heads first.

Everyone has received their certificate of clearance?

Great. Now we can track and hunt those lurking lice in your house – and clean it to prevent any fresh infestation.

What You Will Need?

  • A vacuum cleaner
  • Plastic bags
  • Warm and hot water
  • Natural floor cleaner
  • A household disinfectant
  • Dedication and time

Step #1: Fill Everything in Plastic Bags

Pillows, combs, hair brushes, clothing, blanket, your kids, stuffed toys, barrettes, headbands—everything that you can find—seal them in plastic bags.

And then safely store the plastic bags in a cupboard. Make sure these bags are airtight.

Step #2: Vacuuming

Start with your, and your kids’ bedroom. Vacuum the mattresses, paying close attention to the seams and crevices. Then your carpet. And swiftly move to cushions, couches and sofa sets.

Vacuum every piece of furniture—tilt them, turn them upside down.

Step #3: Mop the Floors

Prepare a dilute solution of warm water and natural floor cleaner. Use this solution to mop all the floors. Make sure you cover every corner—you never know where a louse might be hiding.

Step #4: Spray the Disinfectant

Once you have mopped the floors, spray them with a household disinfectant. Its preferable to use a disinfectant that has a pleasant fragrance—you don’t want everyone to be choking in the house.

Step #5: Take Out All the Sealed Items and Wash Them

Once the floor has dried out and you have allowed yourself enough rest, it’s time to take out all the sealed items and wash them with hot water. Items such as combs, hair brushes, barrettes etc. should be soaked in a bowl of hot water for about 1-2 minutes. Clothing, beddings and plush items should be washed in a washing machine, filled with hot water.

Dry them out and keep everything back to where it belonged.

And you are done—your house is free from lice infestation.
